CHIEFS TAKE ALL THE POINTS

By KOPANO MONAHENG

MZANSI football fans forgot all about the biting cold and showering rain on Sunday afternoon as they made their way to Dobsonville Stadium to watch Amakhosi take on Siwelele FC.

Kick-off was at 5:30pm, and despite the freezing conditions that tested supporters on the stands, the players ensured there was plenty to keep them warm.

Kaizer Chiefs walked away with a hard-fought 3-2 victory, in a match that had everything — goals, missed chances and plenty of excitement.

Amakhosi could have made the evening far more comfortable for themselves, particularly in the first half, after wasting several opportunities in front of goal.

But there were no complaints from the Chiefs faithful. The important thing was the three points.

The victory also came with another talking point surrounding the Chiefs goalkeeping department. Their captain and number-one goalkeeper, Brandon Petersen, could not celebrate a clean sheet after Siwelele found the back of the net twice.

Head coach Fernando da Cruz, who has backed his captain despite the pressure surrounding the goalkeeper in recent weeks, spoke about missed chances.

The Glamour Boys may still have work to do defensively, but on a cold and wet Soweto afternoon, the supporters got exactly what they came for — goals and a Chiefs victory.
